Smiley Saturday-You Make Me Smile

Smiley Saturday Today I want to send a little linky love to a few blogs I’ve discovered that make me smile, with quality content that makes me stop and think, as well as being very personable and friendly.

Being in the dental field myself for so many years, I really value the hard work we put in to give our patients the best dental care possible, as well as finding ways to make treatments affordable for all patients, with various payment options and payment plans.

Many of the patients that come to our office have been with us since they were small children, and have continued treatment with us even after growing up, getting married and having families of their own. Isn’t it fun to watch these young people grow up before our very eyes? Of course, there is a downside when we experience the loss of longterm patients due to illness and death, visiting patients in the hospital and attending funerals of patients we’ve come to care about over the years. But overall, I feel truly blessed to be a dental assistant and office manager, where I am able to connect with patients as people and families that entrust us with caring for their dental needs.

These Dental Blogs make me smile and I feel proud to be amongst you as peers in our profession:

The Dental Implant Blog

Dental Insider

The Endo Blog

  1. Thanks for the link! I hope the foul language over on my blog doesn’t scare your readers away from yours.

My receptionist is always worried whenever we book elderly or frail patients back for recall appointments far into the future (we don’t generally do too many recalls) because she never knows what she’ll find out when she calls to confirm the appointment closer to the date.

  2. Oh man, can I ever relate! We used to make recall appointments well in advance (six months or more) and I have had the embarrassing situation happen many times where whoever answers the phone starts crying uncontrollably to tell me our patient had died several months prior!

I’m often caught off guard and start stumbling for words. We don’t appoint patients that far in advance anymore, whew! :)

  3. Thanks for the mention! It really is amazing to see the changes that families go through over the years. One patient that comes to mind was single and hard-partying when he first started seeing us. Then he got married and his wife became a patient as well. The kid came and now he is seven years old and fun to be around. Alas…the cycle went further in that the parents are divorced now and now the father is back to being single and asking if I have any single friends.

It’s always hard to hear that a patient has passed - I’m thinking of one patient, Russ - I miss him and his grumpy nature. He was one of a kind.

  4. Teresa, you are very welcome! Your comment reminded me of how many patients we have that divorced due to an affair, and both families still come! I really have to stay on my toes and make sure I don’t schedule them to come in at the same time, now that would be a nightmare! :)

  5. Great site DA — i’ve been working on a blog to help our medical collegues use some dental techniques to minimze wait times. if there’s any way you can mention the site i’d appreciate it. thanks Ian.

  6. Hi Ian, I appreciate your interest in my blog. I will check out your site and see what I can do.

I’m most interested in blogs that are very user friendly, conversational, with reciprocal comments between author and viewers.

When I find blog posts that I feel are well-written and informative, I link to them in a variety of ways such as in my posts and in my blogroll etc.

  7. Hi there DA…love reading your stuff. Keep up the good work!

  8. Thanks Kevin! It’s been a bit tough this week to be able to do any posting. The Doc is sick with the flu, so I had to work extra hard all day to contact and reschedule all the patients. On top of that, my FIL was rushed to the hospital this past Tuesday having trouble breathing and we still don’t know any definitive. It’s looking more like he’ll be needing 24-hour nursing care from now on, so we’re doing our best to find suitable care for him. It’s during these times when I wish I was a stay at home mom so I could take care of him full time, but it’s just not possible. Hopefully things will improve soon, so I can get back to my regular postings.
